Congrats, Maira!

Maira made us proud recently by being conferred the Wonderful World Learner Student Award 2008 during her Class Club Recognition Day.

Maira wasn't alone as each and everyone of her fellow classmates were recognized for their individuality. That's the great thing about the philosophy behind the Recognition Day - to focus on each child's unique characteristic and award them for what they do best.

Apart from recognition for each child, the agenda of the Recognition Day included a 'Show & Tell' where seven children were pre-selected by the class teacher to perform. The seven children were chosen by the teacher based on their 'Show & Tell' performance before their classmates in class earlier in the year.

Parents and classmates got to vote for the best 'Show & Tell' performance and Maira got the most votes and got first prize! I must say she looked very composed and confident in her delivery and I am so proud of her... and I bet her dad would be too...

Maira was also voted 'Most Helpful' by her classmates...

Maira's 'lil birthday do

We had an early 'lil birthday do for not-so-little-anymore Maira yesterday. My daughter Maira will officially turn 9 on Tuesday, 20 May 2008.

Notice the cake? Beautiful, isn't it? Siapa lagi yang buat, if not the wonderfully talented Wiz! I had written about Maira's request to have a handbag cake for her birthday here. Thank you, Wiz for the lovvvvely cake!!!

Maira invited some of her schoolfriends over and the first to arrive was Azreen and her brother. The invitation said 2.30pm but they arrived at 1.15pm!!! ;-)

And soon, the rest of the Adni gang arrived. They are so muslimah, aren't they? Alhamdulillah...

I organised some games for the children. I hope they had fun. After three games, they wanted more and so, they organised their own treasure hunt!!! As long as they are happy, right? Gave me some time to mingle with the adult guests...

LOVE YOU, MAIRA! Make Mommy and Daddy proud, ok?

Maira - fasting and food preference

My firstborn Maira puasa sunat last Thursday. Her buka puasa menu? A simple cokodok pisang with crysanthemum tea and rice with daging dendeng.

This daughter of mine have a very simple taste in food. Her staple -- plain roti canai, Gardenia bread with no spread, white rice with telur dadar, daging dendeng and fish curry.

Her more sophisticated menu of choice? Chicken tandoori with plain naan. But only the famous Ampang tandoori uncle. Other place tak nak. She also likes nasi tomato and daging bistik, also a fav of daddy's (recipe Tok Mama).

She is so picky about everything! For fruit, she only takes grapes and oranges. Other fruits like watermelon and papaya, have to paksa and jegel mata before she finally takes one or two cuts. But she lurrrvessss durian!

Dessert? Only the plain agar-agar merah and cream caramel pudding (I make instant ones from WhiteWings). No kuih Melayu for her, even karipap! And she only eats chocolate cake and vanilla ice-cream. That's it.

Fast food? Only Nando's and occasionally KFC (where she'd go for the buns!).

This is just another of her trait that's so opposite from her sister Misha who'd wallop Fettucine Carbonara, Sashimi and Baba Ghanoush anytime!

Maira's art assignment this week is to make a paper basket from manila cards.

She is diligently weaving the strips of paper as I type this blog entry. Can't wait to see the final outcome. Will post it here once it's done!
