Alhamdulillah... the early celebration for Misha's 8th birthday selamat di adakan on Sunday. I am happy it was a success!!
About 30 close family members were at my humble home for my not-so-little-anymore girl's birthday celebration (her actual birthday is Feb 3 -- born on 030201).
You see the cake?? I could do better... but birthday girl was happy so ok lah
Birthday girl spent half an hour figuring out what to wear (I wonder where she gets that from heheh). Ever since she was a tiny tot, she has this thing about choosing what to wear. I am not kidding you -- when she was only 2 years old -- when she wets her pants in the middle of the night and need to change, she'd be so indecisive on what to change into. Pagi-pagi buta at 3am dia tak tau nak pilih seluar tido apa!!
So for the party, last last she wore her long flowing white T-shirt dress -- her current favourite -- kalau boleh hari-hari pun nak pakai dress tu.
The first guests arrived at 1pm just after I had taken my second shower that day :o) The second shower was a must -- after all the cooking done from 7.30am - 12.30pm!! The main courses on the table were mee bandung, nasi tomato, ayam masak merah, paceri nenas and acar. The masak memasak didn't take up so much time but the preparation for it did. Sambil-sambil tu, set the table, keluarkan pinggan mangkuk and all the works la bila entertaining guests... you know the drill!! :o)
The baking was done the day before from 5pm to 12am!! (wow, I really took a long time in the kitchen, huh?) Of course la break for dinner etc. It was the rainbow buttercake at first, followed by the cupcakes. While the cupcakes were in the oven, masak agar-agar 2 jenis -- marble pudding and plain agar-agar2 merah. Then whipped up the batter for the birthday cake. The same recipe for the rainbow buttercake was used for the birthday cake - just with different colours.
Surprisingly, the birthday cake did not take that long to ice and decorate -- perhaps I should've taken more time to do it to achieve better result?? :o) Actually piping the stars on the top part of the cake was not that difficult -- it was smoothing the buttercream on the sides that was a bit of a challenge (cake experts, I need tips here!) I took a while attempting it and almost gave up!! But alhamdulillah, in the end the cake turned out ok -- edible and identifiable as a castle!! :o)

the cake would look much better with stronger pink to contrast against the yellow... FYI Misha chose these colours (just like her mom, she likes pastels but sadly it didn't work on this cake!!)
I wish I had taken more photos of the guests, but was too busy in and out of the kitchen. The last guests left after Maghrib and I passed out!! I woke up two hours later to find the girls in the bed with me. Got up, took a shower and tengok Bibik dah siap mengemas -- tak sabar agaknya nak pergi bercuti (she had two days off on CNY -- pergi jenjalan Malacca with her relatives).
That was the first leg of Misha's birthday celebration -- on her actual birthday nanti dia dah mintak cupcakes to be brought to school and another makan-makan session on the 8th with aunties and uncle from her daddy's side.

I admire you for the effort you made for the party preparation. You really slogged it out in the kitchen, didn't you? Do let Maira read this entry. I'm sure she will be extremely touched by all your hardwork for her party. I certainly would if I were her.

Yes, I did spend some time in the kitchen preparing the food -- it was a mom's labour of love, you could say. After all birthdays only come once a year.
It was Misha's birthday party actually, not Maira's (I know it's easy to get the names mixed-up and you are forgiven hehe). I sure hope she will remember this day fondly...
another supermom with a kind heart and magical fingers anddddddd an iron chef too.... wow!!! your daughters are extremely lucky to have you dear..... i dun think i am capable of dishing out extravagant array of mouthwatering dishes, layan tetamu lagik and the best of all is u r talented enough to whip out a gorgeous looking bday cake for your daughter....

MHB - You did excellent on the cakes! Love the sweet looking tiers where the cupcakes rested. I have yet to do a birthday party for my kids. I told my girl, wait til you are a lil bit bigger coz the presents will get nicer, not just toys and barbies - she agreed!
I don't think I will be doing their cakes if we were to celebrate their birthdays, I would just buy them outside, or maybe from you!! Since you already have the pan and all, so better make full use of it now dear.

I agree with Wiz, you have to make full use of that cake pan now. he he Great way to practise more on the decorating techniques. ;)

TM -- the party was my birthday present to Misha!! Mommy tak beli present yang lain pun... this year she got like 5 presents and the rest were angpaus (which is better!!). After counting the angpaus, she told me, "nanti kalau mommy tak de duit boleh pinjam duit Misha". hehe... that was super sweet!!
