A well-meaning employer tried to make small talk with her maid in the car whilst on a weekend outing to the mall.
Employer: Yuni, wang kamu tak mau kirim kampung ke?
Maid: Nggak mau lagi. Tapi mau beli henpon, boleh?
Employer: Tak boleh...
Maid: Saya cuma mau sms...
Employer: (no response)
End of conversation.
In my head: Who does she want to sms? Does she have a boyfriend? What has she been doing when the girls and I are out during the day? Bla bla bla bla...
Scary.
Maybe I am over-reacting with the thoughts in my head. I hope I am.
But was I being unreasonable for denying her the handphone? I think not. Why would she need a handphone when I let her call home (with my supervision) once a month. It was her who told me once that she doesn't like to call her family too often as it would make her think of home more. So why the handphone now?
