Misha: How we found out...

Late May 2000

Weekday, mid-morning

A certain phone conversation involving a girl and a boy was made between a cubicle on the 4th floor of 31 Jalan Riong and 15th floor of Menara Luxor, Tropicana.

Girl had been worried about it the night before. The feeling continued in the morning.

Girl: Babang, I seriously think I'm pregnant.

Boy: Ye ke... can't be, right?

Girl: I don't know, you tell me! (notice a hint of blame here? hehe). I'm 3 days late and I'm never late.

Boy: Really... you sure? Maybe tak ada apa-apa kot

Girl: I can feel it. Mesti punya. OMG. It's ok -- I'll call you later. Nanti I cari home pregnancy test kit masa lunch.

Boy: Ok... love you.

Girl: Love you.

Lunch time, I dragged a colleague (I think it was Zakiah) to get a pregnancy test kit (I think it was @ BSC or could it be in Jalan Telawi). Got the kit, had lunch and head back to office.

Went straight to the toilet and did the test. Two lines. Positive. I'm pregnant. Suddenly sweating. Betul ke ni? Went back to cubicle and made another call.

Girl: I'm right. I'm pregnant. Did the test. Positive.

Boy: Ye ke... (I heard joy in his voice). Maira nak dapat adik?

Girl: (quiet)

Boy: Are you ok?

Girl: (pause). I'm not ready... (we had just celebrated Maira's 1st birthday bout a week ago and a new baby was the last thing on my list).

Boy: Tak pe, Yayang...it's ok. Rezeki, tu... we should be happy. I'll come home early. We'll talk about it.

Girl: (pause). This is shocking news, I'm not ready. I tengah menggigil ni (drama!) Macam nak pitam pun ada. I think I'm gonna tell Norman (my sweet boss) I'm not well and go home. Need to lie down.

Boy: Take it easy, Yayang. I'll be home soon. Love you.

Girl: (pause). Bye.

So, that's how we found out.
